Dearest Amelia,
You are growing up fast – 20 months old today. I can hardly believe it. You really seem like you are becoming a big girl, more so every day and it is so fun to see the world through your eyes.
I think every day you learn new words – lately there has been: fork, spoon, buckle, pillow, spider, slide, butter, puzzle and more. You’ve started adding in phrases too: ‘car go’, ’sock on’, ’sock off’, ’shoe on’, ’shoe off’ and you are trying to sing songs as well. At daycare you learned one that goes ‘mommy I love you daddy I love you’ and last night you were singing it to your broccoli at dinner – too cute.
The other day someone asked me if we were mama dada or mommy and daddy. My initial answer was I thought we were still mama dada. But no – I was wrong. Since then it is very clear we are mommy and daddy and I love how you say it.
Soon we are going to try and teach you big girls don’t need pacis – for now we’ve limited it to crib only which seems to be going well. However a friend of mine did have a cute story to share:
I have been meaning to email you about this morning and a cute Amelia story. I was dropping off the boys and Amelia and Emily were in front of me (near the book area). I saw Amelia take Emily’s pacifier from her and put in her mouth (Emily did not put up much of a fight). She did this while I was talking to Ms Moore and I laughed when I saw it, so Ms Moore turned around and saw that Amelia had the paci in her mouth and she just said “Amelia” and Amelia ripped the paci out of her mouth and threw it acting like “there was no paci in my mouth.” I laughed harder as thought it was hilarious how she knew she had done something wrong, but was smart enough to try to play it off as if nothing had happened.
So it might be a challenge when we decide you are a big girl. We are thinking we’ll give you at least another month with them.
The other day we went to visit your cousin Lena, and I was so happy to see how well you played towards the end of the day. We were trying to do a video conference with the grandparents and you two were hysterical together. First drumming crazily on the drum, so close to hitting one another yet not. Then we asked you to do ring around the rosy so you held hands and ran around the entire house (not conducive to a video phone call). Next you decided to try and show off jumping – Lena can get up off the ground a little but you were too funny – you’d try by bending your knees really low, then bounding up, only instead of getting off the ground you’d fall forward cracking yourself up. Its hard to explain how all of this was going on, but I was laughing so hard I was crying. I’m so glad you have your cousin to be close to.
You also have had more time to play with your neighborhood friends lately, with the pretty weather. You can say Graham, Kiera and Meredith now well, and you all enjoy playing with the outdoor push toys. Sharing is sometimes still an issue, but its getting better. The best is when one of you can push another friend in one of the push toys. You also really enjoy slides, and luckily Graham has one in his back yard. Maybe there will be a surprise for you one day at home.
You are still eating like a champ – bread might be your favorite but you’ll eat your fruit, veggies, meats and carbs – just the order might differ depending on mood. We’ve been working hard on getting you to understand not to throw food when you are done, instead just to hand us your plate and say all done. Last night you did it perfectly, so hopefully the lessons are helping and we can avoid more time outs for throwing. (Though I think you enjoy watching us use the hand-vac to cleanup the food).
We love you very much baby girl, and I know I can’t call you baby girl much longer – I’m still clinging on tight. I love my hugs and it melts my heart when you say ‘I love you’.
Happy 20 Months Birthday!
Baby Momma
PS Hopefully pictures will be added tonight.
