Is this the next winner…

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Each fall BabyGap holds a ‘casting call’ contest – and while there are hundreds if not thousands of adorable babies entered – I figured we should try and enter and win. Nothing to lose right? So I decided to do a photoshoot on Sunday and got some pretty cute photos and thought I’d share a few – I can’t share the ones I entered according to the rules, so here are some of the ‘outtakes’.

Future Duke Cheerleader? Football Player?

Monday, October 6th, 2008

We are very proud of the progress my alma matter, Duke, has made towards having a football program worthly of the Iron Dukes. While we aren’t going to win every game, starting off the season 3-2 is quite an accomplishment considering I think we’ve averaged only one win a year for the last couple of years. In support of Duke, Amelia wore her cheerleader outfit to the neighborhood block party, and quite appropriately had fun playing with a football. Maybe there is a scholarship in her future.  (At the end you’ll see she remembers she is on grass, and she doesn’t like her legs to touch grass…. )

Unfortunately this doesn’t show off her expertise – overhand throwing a tennis ball – but still considering the size and weight of a football, I thought it was pretty good.

to be a fight in the Dyar household.  I thought by now Amelia would’ve caved, I really did.  Give her a sippy of milk during snack time, no problem – drains the thing.  Even at night she might take a few sips.  But when she wakes up in the morning – oh my gosh, she is so happy to see you until she sees you have a sippy and then the hysterics and the big tears start.  So I wisk her to eat a large breakfast to compensate for no milk – which works most mornings although this morning being a Monday, she decided to be more difficult and would only eat when I left her alone and she could scoop her oatmeal with her hand into her mouth… she tried the spoon to, but the amount of oatmeal on her and around her… it was kind of funny if I hadn’t already been running late.  Oh well – she went to daycare with an oatmeal stain on her pants.

She did at least sleep better last night then she’s been doing – not one night has she needed us to help out (once I did go in there but she had just fallen quiet and back asleep).  But she’s been very restless all weekend long – maybe because of the bottle-gate, I don’t know.  Last night though she slept more normal and I had to wake her up to get ready for school which was a nice change, but also might explain her extreme crankiness this morning.

So we’ll see!  She did walk about 8 steps a couple times, the most steady I’ve seen her.  I have a feeling we are about to have a full on walker.

Check back later tonight or tomorrow for some cute pictures and maybe even a video.

Bottle-gate 2008

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

So our pediatrician asked us to get Amelia off her first thing in the morning and last thing at night bottles by 15 months.  She didn’t mind if that was when she had her milk (soy), but it should be sippies.  We had it all planned to do a few weekends ago, when we had very little plans and no babysitters etc… best laid plans – that was the weekend of Salmonella so we in fact gave her more bottles to ensure she was hydrated.

So we decided this weekend was the weekend.  In addition to the bottles, we had spoiled Amelia a bit when she woke up at night (only about 50% of the time did she wake) by giving her water, and then if necessary more milk, to go back to bed.  She used to only wake when it was serious, so we got in the habit of helping out… she goes to bed normally like a champ.  But…. we have realized we’ve been spoiling her so WHY NOT JUST RUIN OUR SLEEP for the whole weekend and work on both.  Let her cry it out and take away her bottles, ALL AT ONCE.  Because that makes sense.

Luckily the cry it out part hasn’t gone so bad, the last two nights since we made our resolution to ourselves, she’s only cried out a couple times and put herself back to sleep in about 2 minutes each time.  Really not bad at all.  However yesterday was the begining of bottle-gate.

I packed them up, because I knew if she saw them it was all over.   And since yesterday morning, she is only offered the soy milk in a sippy – we have two kinds and have tried both.  She thinks we are trying to poison her I believe.   I KNOW she can drink out of a sippy – she does it during the day no problem.  She’ll even drink milk from it during the day – so this is pure stubborness – I wonder where she gets that from?

Last night she drank a few oz with dinner and then wouldn’t take anymore out of it before bed, but she slept through the night, and she’s drinking plenty of water.  This morning, again, wouldn’t really take it other than the first sip.  Sip then throw.  They say it takes about 3 days at this age to form new habits.  We’ll see – I’ll update you.

Have a great Friday and weekend!

Kelly

PS I apologize ahead of time to my generous mother who is babysitting tonight and will get to deal with night 2 of bottle-gate.

Amelia’s Thursday Thoughts: October 2, 2008

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Hi everyone! Sorry I didn’t get my thoughts to mom last week – I was too busy having fun being back at daycare with all of my friends. I am so excited to see them all there, and I’ve settled into a great routine of sleeping 2 – 2 1/2 hours for my nap, which makes my parents happy too. I still like to liven it up by changing how I sleep at night almost every night – maybe I’ll let them sleep better soon. Though I don’t know, they tried to give me a sippy instead of a bottle this morning – are they trying to poison me? That’s what I think so I wouldn’t drink it. I just ate more of a breakfast to compensate.

My daddy is the best at making me laugh so mom took a video the other day for all of you to enjoy. He was teaching me to inhale and hold paper against your mouth. I’m not good at it. The music in the background is from The Music Class, which I really enjoy taking. I get to do another back to back this weekend with a makeup class. Yeah! I really like the driving my truck song which is what I’m dancing to at the end. After the ‘honk honk’ I usually go ‘han han’ – I’ve almost got the honking down. Mommy wasn’t at the best angle to capture my dancing but you get the idea. What you miss is my feet doing dancing moves too.

I hope everyone has exciting weekend plans. In addition to music class, my Kaykay is coming to babysit on Friday and we have a few friends coming over on Sunday so it should be fun!
