Weekend Update
Monday, September 8th, 2008I hope everyone had a great weekend – we really enjoyed ours. The weather was great, and we didn’t have tons scheduled to run around like crazy. Still a little bit of running around, but it was mild.
Friday we had dinner with friends – it was so cute. Amelia and her buddy Graham (carpool, daycare and July birth buddies) were being babysat together and Graham was all hugging on Amelia – so Amelia gave him a big kiss on the cheek (her favorite open mouth variety). Then she cried. We aren’t sure why – tramatized by her first kiss?
Saturday I made a big leap in my training for the 3-day walk by doing 8 miles – however, after being sick most of the week that did me in and I spent the rest of Saturday moving from one couch to another … at least it was a football day. And we had Velveeta cheese dip. So it wasn’t that bad… I had wanted to go do a book signing (Sleep is for the Weak) but I was just not feeling up to it and I felt so sad at missing it – hopefully I can go to another soon, and I hope to finish reading the book and review it on here as well. Its great for parents who enjoy reading sarcastic or witty entries about being parents.
Sunday we did ‘The Music Class’ with Amelia – she sat there in shock for 43 minutes looking at us like we were crazy, but I think she’ll really enjoy it as we go more because those last 2 minutes she finally started to participate. And then in the car she sang and danced – why didn’t that happen earlier? Who knows. Chris got to have even more bonding time with Amelia while I played tennis, and then we had a laid back dinner and sadly the weekend was ending. We also cannot get those songs out of our head… ‘I’m so happy to see Amelia!’ and ‘Jump Jump Johnny Giraffe’. Over and over. In my head. Joyous really.
We did find out we can add a peanut allergy to our food allergy list – but her skin reactions to dairy and egg were pretty mild, so we’re hoping to get a blood test this week to categorize her as a child who will grow out of the allergies. Crossing our fingers. On the flip side, it means Amelia eats pretty healthy since veggies, fruits & meats are the easiet and safest to give her without chance of reaction. And she LOVES her soy milk.
[Random aside - who knew there were so many soy milks? At first we were going to use Plain - but then we read it has added sugar for sweetness? (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice to be exact) So now we use unsweetened, which also happens to be organic. I feel pretty good about it, but I tasted it? Not sure I could drink it myself - at least she loves it.]
A few cute things Amelia is doing right now – for one she is trying to talk in sentences – mind you, she doesn’t have many words – but she is combining all these syllables and combining what I guess are her words… so its sounds more like badebu nama dow – but she is trying so hard and just keeps on talking, waiting for a response, etc. She is doing some sign I don’t recognize, on my list to look up a few I know they are teaching today. I think its help. She has blown us kisses a couple times. Oh and one of the funniest – she likes to get in the cabinets. That gets a big ‘Amelia – no, no touch’ from us. We have quite a few with electronics we haven’t ‘proofed’ and just want her to learn. Well she was completely ignoring us so Chris hit the arm of the couch and said ‘No’ to emphasize and make it louder – and she just turns to him, grins and hits the floor in imitation. So the rest of the afternoon, anytime we started to say no – she’d bang the floor. Ahhhh, toddlers and copying their parents. I see much fun with that ahead.
Tonight Amelia gets to see her Kaykay and Grandpa Joe and then we actually have a couple of normal weeks ahead of us. Its kind of nice to look at the schedule and see that.
Hopefully later in the week I’ll finally get some video editing and photo editing done for all of you to enjoy.
