Midweek Tidbits

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

While I don’t have any new pictures yet to share, I wanted to share a few fun tidbits about cute things Amelia is doing right now.

Probably my favorite is that she is giving the best hugs and loves to give them - just wraps herself around you - its awesome and amazing.

Another fun thing she has learned is that if she is hungry, she goes to the high chair and wants to get up. She knows that is where we eat (which I guess is a good thing!). She’ll do it to a booster seat as well if we aren’t at home - doesn’t have to be her high chair. And she is hungry all the time it seems, you’d think we weren’t feeding her or something. I have trouble getting her to do ‘all done’ because she is never all done - she’ll just keep eating. She has decided she needs breakfast before daycare these days, which makes for logistical fun when trying to get out the door. Most mornings I try to do oatmeal mixed with fruit puree, but this morning was cheerios. (Maybe that is why she was cranky when I dropped her off - hmmm). When I tried to do this a couple weeks ago she was having nothing to do with it, but maybe because she isn’t on formula anymore (soy milk baby right now), she’s hungrier and now looks forward to eating before we leave.

At daycare they have been letting her visit the toddler room to get used to it - and they say she is a pro! They actually said she walked yesterday, but since I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen. ;) I think she is close, but I am not sure she is ready to walk quite yet so we’ll see.

She’s also started saying some other words, most are hard to decipher - but I know I’ve heard ‘oscar’ which is our friend Graham’s dog and his first word. Which he says all the time - so I know that is where she picked that one up.

Last tidbit for today is that she loves soft things and pillows now. She loves to hug her stuffed animals or to lay on a soft pillow - not for long, its brief, but so adorable.

Hope everyone is getting through the week okay - its almost the weekend, and then we’ll be headed off on vacation with my side of the family in Texas. Because Texas is logical when its really hot outside - not sure what we were thinking but it should be fun - Amelia loves her cousins and they have a lazy river and all sorts of fun stuff there.

One Year Stats

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Amelia saw the doctor for her one year appointment yesterday and she is:

28 1/4 inches tall (30th percentile)

22 lbs 10 oz (75th percentile)

So still tracking as short and stocky and adorable.  I love my buddha belly baby and wouldn’t change a thing.

The Day After The Chaos

Monday, July 28th, 2008

A big thank you to everyone who could come celebrate Amelia’s birthday - it was fun, and Amelia seemed to really enjoy everything going on.  Since having 16 kids in our basement was a bit chaotic (are we sure there weren’t 30 or 40?), we had decided to wait for gifts until Sunday morning after a good night of sleep for the birthday girl.  We also realized we hadn’t taken a good picture of her wearing her party dress, so on it went, along with the hat when she would cooperate.

Amelia loves her balloon!  She did well with the gift opening, much better than at Christmas when paper scared her.  Its hard to tell what her favorite thing to play with is - she loves the classic cell phone, she loves the books (particular if she is in her new reading chair), she loves her push toys… and there were lots of fun clothes to look fashionable in this fall too.  Thank you everyone for your generosity - we appreciate your friendship and hope you had a good time at the party as well.

Reading one of her new books in her big comfy reading chair from Nonni.  Thanks Nonni, its the perfect size.

Its a fridge farm!  I had great fun making a pig-cow and taking all the pieces off the fridge while mom was cooking dinner.

I love touch and feel books - they are the best - thanks!

My Nonni stayed the night and helped us open everything.  Thanks Nonni!

Thank you everyone - you were too generous - but Amelia loves everything and had such a fun morning.

Showing off my serious side….  I’m in awe.

Being silly!  I even put the phone to my ear to talk, it was too cute.  And I really like my Dora carnival push toy - it lets mom & dad get ready in the bathroom while I play and play and play.

Thanks everyone!!!  Its been such a great wonderful year and it wouldn’t have been the same without all our wonderful friends and family.

Party Party Party….

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Mom & dad threw me such a fun party yesterday. So many of my little friends made it - it was great! There was cake and bbq and juice boxes for everyone. Here are a bunch of photos to start - we’ll update with even more from the post-party gift opening and toy playing later this week. (My friends were soooo generous and I have so many great books to read and toys to play on - I can’t decide what my favorite is!)

You’ll see in the pictures - I wasn’t into the whole cake thing - it was beautiful and I guess I didn’t want to mess it up. I did try a couple bites once they gave me a fork, but apparently I just love my veggies and meat, and don’t want the sugar.

I hope all my friends had as good a time as I did - enjoy the pictures!

Amelia

Decor was supposed to be polka dots - Publix didn’t quite get the message on that with the cake - but hey, the pink/green look works too!  Our friend Shannon made the awesome smash cake for Amelia - too cute.

Not a huge fan of cake apparently - but i did eat a little of the dots and off a fork.

Lots of friends and family came to celebrate with us! Thanks!

The family after - Amelia was worn out.

And so was mommy….. time to go to bed!

This time last year… a year in review

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Wow.  I’m going to have to start typing this post early, because there is so much I want to cover.  My little girl, my baby, is one.  And becoming a toddler more and more each day.  How did that happen?  How did the time fly by so fast?

Flash back a year ago - Amelia wasn’t due until August 11th, but due to a pre-cautionary ultrasound, the doctors said she was fully baked and needed to come a little early.  So we checked in the the hospital on July 23rd, mid-afternoon.  It was a long 28 hours, but 8:15 p.m. on July 24th, our little bundle was delivered by c-section - she celebrated by peeing on the nurse I believe.  Haha.  She was a precious tiny little thing, only 6 lbs 4 oz, and 18 1/2 inches.  Not quite the larger baby I was prepared for, she seemed so tiny and delicate.

Flash forward to now - she isn’t tiny and delicate!  She loves to eat, and is very solid on her legs.  We’ll find out for sure next week at her 1 year appointment, but she’s at least 23 lbs and probably 29 inches.   She has the cutest squeezable cheeks and thighs, they are just adorable.

Her daily schedule right now is still in flux - we are trying to prepare her for her toddler room at daycare by getting her down to one nap a day, after lunch.  However, she generally still takes a short cat nap in the mornings when she is home with us.  The mid-day nap will last 2 - 3 hours if its nice & quiet, daycare its more like 1 - 1 1/2 hours.  She wakes with a formula bottle (soon to be milk), snacks on some cheerios, then eats breakfast at daycare mid-morning.  Some of her favorites are waffles and blueberry muffins and she always eats her fruit.  Lunch is fast becoming a favorite of hers too - she often eats not only her plate but tries to take from others as well, along with her milk.  Yesterday she had turkey meatballs and pasta - last week she even ate sloppy joe!  She also loves veggies she can feed herself - like peas, carrots, corn and even green beans.  I can’t believe she is this advanced at eating, it amazes me.  I remember writing on here that I thought she’d be on purees until she was 3.  She snacks in the afternoon on crackers and maybe applesauce, as well as more milk.  And then I pick her up from school, and we eat an early dinner together most nights.  We are trying to do as much organic, hormone-free as possible, but some nights its chicken nuggets & mixed veggies and last night she had some oatmeal.  We’re flexible.  She ends the night with a formula bottle and sleeps from about 7:30 - 6:30 most nights.  She loves her pacifier and that is a major part of her sleeping right now - we aren’t sure when we will fight that battle - for now we put 3 - 4 in her crib and that usually gets her through the night.  Occasionally we have to help her find one, or pat her back, but  luckily that’s rare unless she is teething.  Its a pretty straightforward schedule, but it seems to be in flux.  I’ve tried to get her to eat ‘breakfast’ of yogurt or oatmeal before daycare and so far that has been refused - she’ll do cheerios but no real food.  We’ll keep trying!

Her vocabulary seems to be expanding much faster now.  She babbled dada awhile ago, and mama after that - but she truly started to use words appropriately starting in June.  She reached for me and said ‘mama’ - she knows when its ‘dada’ on the phone.  She says ‘yeah’ when clapping, and she can both sign and say ‘all done’ - doesn’t always mean she is done - I think it means she is done with what’s there, maybe not that she’s full - she can always eat more cheerios, haha.  She’s recently learned when she drops or throws something to say ‘uh oh’.  Its pretty funny.  We also think she said ‘dog’ about my parent’s dog over 4th of July and over this past weekend we heard her say ‘baby’ a few times - not sure she knows the meaning of that one, but it was fun regardless.  She often has babbling conversations with us, and is quite verbal.  Other sign language she seems to know - ‘eat/food’ and I think she is close to ‘more’.  She used to do milk but that one has disappeared, maybe because its so similar to waving.

We’ve also had rapid improvement in mobility as of late - I am just waiting to turn around and see her walking.  Amelia is great at crawling, pulling up and cruising.  Apparently at daycare she pushes her crib (on wheels) into the center of the room.  So I don’t think it’ll be long before she just lets go and walks, especially if we spend some time with her cousins in August who are all older than her.  Walking is one of those amazing milestones that I’m excited for, but I know it introduces a whole bunch of new baby proofing we haven’t addressed yet.   We also can’t forget her mobility that has lead to dancing - she loves to dance to about any music we turn on, whether its her ‘Signing Times’ dvd or Jimmy Buffet on the iTunes.

Amelia has also become very affectionate these last few months.  She hugs on her teachers at school, and gives great hugs to us as well.  This past weekend she decided to love on Uncle Joey as well, just curling up on his chest - it just makes your heart melt.  She also has become quite good at giving kisses - though hers are the open mouth attacking cheek variety (and if you aren’t careful, mouth).  I love them though, she gets so excited about it.

As part of the growing stage, Amelia has also gotten quite good at tantrums.  To her credit, there generally is a root cause - she’s tired or hungry, and then something sets her off.  I guess I can see why she doesn’t understand she can’t play with the remotes (she almost bought something the last time we let her have it).  So, just in case all of you think she’s always an angel - I did capture this moment.

Last night, Amelia got a long fun bath which she loves!  Had to get her sparkling clean for her big first birthday at school today.  Her hair keeps getting longer and curlier - I thought it’d be funny to try a shampoo mohawk, but the curls just wanted to take over instead.

Baby daddy and I are so blessed to have Amelia in our lives.  We can’t remember what it was like without her, and don’t want to - its too great with her in it.  I am in shock she is one today, but also happy we’ve made this milestone.  I’ll try not to tear up too much as I go through the day, remembering all the great things about this past year and all the emotions from this day last year.  I know I’ve forgetten to write things I wanted to write, but I have many more years to blog about all the cute and wonderful things as Amelia Takes On The World.

Love,

Great Grandfather and a Great Trip

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I had a great trip visiting my great grandfather, Pawpaw, up in Louisville Kentucky. Can you believe he will be 90 years old soon? I’m almost a year old, that’s close right? I wasn’t a big fan of being in the car most of the weekend, but it was worth it for sure. We stayed with mom’s Uncle Joey and Aunt Carol (thanks!) - I loved cuddling on Uncle Joey’s chest. We also had a great family gathering at Little Joey’s (there is now an even younger Joey who is a senior in high school next year - confusing I know). We took video there of me playing with all my cousins, that will be posted soon. Until then, enjoy these pictures of me on my trip.
Love,
Amelia

Updated: Video to enjoy!

One week left…

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Until I’m one.  I can’t wait - mommy seems to be all sentimental lately.  She tries to give me lots of cuddles and I help her out by giving her big open mouth kisses on her cheek.  With my tongue.  This weekend we are going up to meet my great grandfather - I am so excited.  I’m like the 17th one or something… and there are 12 of them in Kentucky with him so it should be a fun-filled weekend.

Have a good weekend,

Amelia
