Who knew tampers meant advanced?
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008So I took Amelia to see her pediatrician yesterday (don’t worry – just something minor with her sensitive skin), and decided to ask about her tampers as we call them. I’ve referred to them before, but Amelia has started to assert herself at various times – usually if she really wants to be playing with something that we don’t want her to play with – like a remote. She throws these little fits. They aren’t that often – she is really good natured 95% of the time, but I thought I’d ask anyway to see if we were doing the right thing.
I was very interested to hear from the doctor that it is somewhat advanced for her age – its more of a 13 – 15 month trait and means that she is very self-aware and building up self-esteem. So that’s good! She did say not to encourage the fit part of it though, to just address the situation appropriately with a no, or a stop and then go about life as if she isn’t throwing a fit. That is what we were doing anyway so I feel good we are on the right track.
It was also fun to hear her say how verbal Amelia was – Amelia stopped to take her paci out to ’speak’ and be a part of our conversation and apparently that’s a really good thing. I knew Amelia loved to babble and recently she pretends to read books out loud, but its always nice to hear confirmation that she is doing well verbally. I try not to compare to others but I keep waiting for her to understand the context of the mama and dada that she babbles. I see others who have achieved it, and I just can’t wait for that milestone. I think she is close and I shouldn’t wish her to grow too fast – but you can bet you’ll hear about it here on her blog.
We had a playdate last Saturday with Carson, Carter and Davis and will get pictures up later this week. We had a great time, Amelia was very good about sharing all her toys.
Hope everyone is having a good week,
Baby Momma
