Who knew tampers meant advanced?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

So I took Amelia to see her pediatrician yesterday (don’t worry – just something minor with her sensitive skin), and decided to ask about her tampers as we call them.  I’ve referred to them before, but Amelia has started to assert herself at various times – usually if she really wants to be playing with something that we don’t want her to play with – like a remote.  She throws these little fits.  They aren’t that often – she is really good natured 95% of the time, but I thought I’d ask anyway to see if we were doing the right thing.

I was very interested to hear from the doctor that it is somewhat advanced for her age – its more of a 13 – 15 month trait and means that she is very self-aware and building up self-esteem.  So that’s good!  She did say not to encourage the fit part of it though, to just address the situation appropriately with a no, or a stop and then go about life as if she isn’t throwing a fit.   That is what we were doing anyway so I feel good we are on the right track.

It was also fun to hear her say how verbal Amelia was – Amelia stopped to take her paci out to ’speak’ and be a part of our conversation and apparently that’s a really good thing.  I knew Amelia loved to babble and recently she pretends to read books out loud, but its always nice to hear confirmation that she is doing well verbally.   I try not to compare to others but I keep waiting for her to understand the context of the mama and dada that she babbles.   I see others who have achieved it, and I just can’t wait for that milestone.  I think she is close and I shouldn’t wish her to grow too fast – but you can bet you’ll hear about it here on her blog.

We had a playdate last Saturday with Carson, Carter and Davis and will get pictures up later this week.  We had a great time, Amelia was very good about sharing all her toys.

Hope everyone is having a good week,

Its Hot Here in Hotlanta

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

So, thinking its only June, its a little too hot!  I haven’t been able to take AMelia outside on walks with the heat in the 90s after work.  This weekend the index was supposedly even hitting 100.  Its crazy.

Friday we went to the cool pool, in the early evening – which worked out well.  Shaded, the pool is bath temperatures.  Amelia liked it I think – she was very serious about the whole thing until the end when she started sticking out her tongue a bit and I knew then she liked it.  We even got smiles once we played by the side of the pool.  And you can’t beat the cuteness of her in the pink polka dot bikini.

Saturday – knowing the heat would just keep climbing – we hit Summerfest in Va Highlands when it opened at 10 am.  Even then, it was too hot – we lasted about an hour and you can see how hot poor Amelia was – we got her to drink lots of ice water at least.  Luckily that was heat and not a sunburn and she was happily back to normal after we all took family nap time.  Babydad and I returned after we got a babysitter for the night, and enjoyed a live concert by Shawn Mullins – it was still hot, but the shade helped.  Amelia loved her babysitter Sarah, asking to be picked up and curling up on her chest just minutes after she arrived.

They said she was starting to cruise while holding on to things – which we had seen her try but not accomplish, and sure enough this morning she made it halfway down the coffee table.  She still finds it easier to sit down and crawl when she needs to go far but walking is now in the near future.

Later today we have a playdate with her good friends Carson, Carter and Davis – hopefully we’ll get a good picture to post – the last couple times we haven’t managed to capture them together.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend,

Still My Baby Girl!

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Amelia is going through a lot of change these past couple of weeks. I’ve already documented her ability to pull up to standing, on pretty much everything. Her favorite things are trying to get into the fridge or the dishwasher. They changed which crib she was in at daycare, so now she isn’t napping more than about 30 minutes a day – leaving her tired and cranky for home (two days in a row now she’s been asleep by the time we’ve left the parking lot at daycare in her carseat). After her catnap, she likes to eat dinner – as long as its finger food only please! She’ll still eat her jarred food at daycare thankfully. And she just seems to becoming a little girl! She looks so old in this pictures – not my little 10 month old. I can’t believe we are rapidly approaching the first birthday landmark – its going too fast!

This was when she was still slightly serious and cranky – but her toys rapidly cheered her up.

Amelia trying to get to the camera.

I won’t eat my food, but I’ll eat this toy!

There’s my smiley Amelia!

Hope everyone makes it through the rest of this week.

Memorial Day Montage…

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

A video montage of our weekend in the mountains – the music is from the weekend itself, you’ll see three players during some of the segments – I used their wonderful music as a backdrop for the whole thing.  You’ll see Amelia learning about grass, learning to bang on a door, enjoying music, hiking, napping and more. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! – Dyar Baby Momma
