Proud Mama Moment

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

I just want to share that Amelia used the sign for ‘eat’ this morning to get the last couple oz of her bottle after I thought she was finished and had moved on to dressing her – very proud.  I didn’t expect that, and it took me a few minutes to figure it out.  She’s probably been trying for weeks to get our attention with a sign and thinks we are clueless – at least now I know to start watching for them.  I need to start learning myself!

8 Months Old….

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

My dearest Amelia,

You were 8 months old Monday. It is crazy how fast time goes by – you are growing so fast. You weigh over 19 lbs and we think you are over 26 inches – but no one would call you tall yet. I love your chunky little thighs – they are so cute and squeezable.

You are close to crawling – however, we’ve noticed you can get to things by rolling, so I’m not sure you feel the need to crawl. You love standing and talking to people, you just squeal with delight.

We mostly just call you by your name Amelia these days – but you are also known by ‘fuss pot’ and ‘crankipants’ if you get in a fussy mood or just ‘cutie-pie’ because you are so adorable. You are still my Amelia-bug and I still love lady bugs on anything for you – but mostly you are just Amelia, your own unique self.

Your favorite games, the ones that can make you giggle and laugh, are playing with puppets or stuffed animals. You really enjoy if we make them dance or if we play the ‘near – far’ game with you. That can really get you going. You save your laughs for special moments, so it is such a joy to hear.

Eating has been an adventure. So far you don’t like texture so only stage 2 foods for you. With the stage 3 fruits you eat the sauce and spit out the chunks – its kind of funny. You did eat your first Gerber puffs on Friday – I think you like them. So maybe the texture-aversion is on the way out. We also unfortunately gave you dairy on Friday – I promise we didn’t mean it, but the packaging was labeled just like your other fruit/oatmeal combos – so I’m sorry. And apparently you are still intolerant as you then were sick all over the car – so I guess we paid for our mistake. After a weekend to recover from that – you seem to be back to your happy schedule of 4 bottles a day and 3 meals of solids. I think your favorite is your oatmeal or barley cereal but pear sauce and the apple sweet potato combos are a close second. The only thing that has made you pause (other than texture) was the chicken mixed with sweet potato – but I don’t blame you there. Chicken? In a jar? I think we’ll wait until I just puree or chop up chicken in small chunks for you -how about that.

You celebrated your 8 month lunar birthday last night by attempting to clap – I’m very excited about that. I’ve been working on it and up until now you showed no interest. But last night, during a couple rounds of ‘If You Are Happy And You Know It’ – you tried to clap with us – yeah! So proud of you.

Its hard to capture your adorable-ness in a blog post – we’ll put some pictures but even those don’t do you justice. You are our precious Amelia and we love you so much.

Love,

Mom

My First Easter

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

For Easter weekend, we had quite the adventure. Mom & Dad decided to take me down to Nonni’s and Grandpappy’s for the weekend – on the car ride down, I was accidentally fed some dairy and decided to be sick all over – no fun! While daddy graciously cleaned my seat, mom & I had fun watching all the cars go by out in the sunshine. I got to change outfits too. Once we were down in Florida things went a bit smoother. I got to go to the neighborhood festival and meet the Easter bunny – and I got to ride on my first merry-go-round. I even let them dress me up in dresses all weekend for lots of picture taking. Mom was sad that Duke lost, but she dressed me in my pink Duke outfit on Sunday since she is still proud of them. The Easter bunny brought me my first Easter basket – it was great and contained candy for my parents and an Easter book, an Easter bib, a bunny as well as bunny ears for me. I loved it, particularly the bunny – I like to eat the ears of my animals. It was a great weekend all in all and thanks to my grandparents for hosting us down in Florida.

I hope all my good buddies had a good first Easter as well. Enjoy the pictures!

Bonnet Parade

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

We had a bonnet parade at school – it was so much fun! I got to ride in a crib with my best bud Meredith – I even put my arm around her. Don’t you love my crown?? I am a princess so its appropriate (though I did have trouble keeping it on…).

First Up… St. Patty’s Day

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

For my first St. Patty’s Day, mommy dressed me in a fun spring green dress for daycare.  Everyone was wearing green so I didn’t get to pinch anyone!  Oh well…. I fit into 9 – 12 months clothes mostly now, so mom washed a bunch and here are a few pics of me before school each day.

Enjoy! Amelia

I promise… updates this week!

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Well Duke is unfortunately out of the March Madness craziness, as is UGA – but it was fun while it lasted and we will always support our teams.  Its been a hectic couple of weeks with Lasik for me (the baby momma), an Easter trip to Jacksonville for Amelia’s first Easter, Amelia’s first St. Patty’s and Bonnet parade at school, and the building of a new computer as home (our old one was about to die at any minute and it would’ve been so painful if we lost all of our Amelia photos!).

Now that we are through all of this – I’ll get to editing photos so I can post about the many different events of the last week and a half.   Today Amelia is 8 months old – time does fly.  So never fear Amelia fans, there should be multiple posts with pictures this week.

The Beauty and Tragedy of March Madness

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Well, if yesterday morning you had told me that UGA would win 2 games in one day, at an empty stadium, after downtown Atlanta was hit by a tornado, to make the SEC Championship game today – I don’t think I would’ve believed you…. and while we are very happy for the Dawgs, unfortunately the Blue Devils did not win against a very good Clemson team, who couldn’t miss a free throw towards the end of the game.  You know you aren’t going to win, when their senior who is 40% from the line, with a broken wrist, starts making every free throw.  Just not destined to be for a re-match with UNC, at least not during the ACC tourney.  There is always the NCAA!  Brackets get announced tonight, should be fun.

Today I’ll be playing my first tennis match since I was six months pregnant with Amelia – should be entertaining to say the least.  At least its not raining anymore!

Go Duke! Its ACC Tourney Time…

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

First off, we have to thank Uncle Bob & Aunt Judy for the wonderful 5 in 1 baby gym – Amelia loves it and its giving her a great place to practice standing as well.

Secondly, its ACC Tournament Time – Duke beat GT last night, and we’re looking at Clemson for a matchup today.  If all goes as expected, we’ll be going for a re-match with UNC tomorrow – right now we’ve split the last two games, so its a big one for bragging rights.

Lastly, for those of you that saw a tornado hit Atlanta last night – we are all fine thankfully.  We didn’t even know about it until we were watching the news this morning.   Its crazy to think about – I used to have an exterior window office in CNN Center which is now missing quite a few windows and just last Friday we were at a Thrashers game in the arena right there.  So far everyone I know that was in the area has reported being fine, although with a few stories to tell.  Hopefully the next wave of storms headed our way won’t do any additional damage and just bring the rain we so badly need.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, and stays safe & well!

Twins

Friday, March 14th, 2008

My mom decided to dress us the same today – even though St. Patty’s is on Monday – she’ll have to wash our outfits so we can once again be green. We’re looking forward to a weekend of just hanging out. They told me that I get to start having a breakfast of oatmeal this weekend – I love food so I’m very excited about that. I’ve been having barley cereal the last couple of nights and its pretty yummy, then again I like everything!

7 Random Facts

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Well my friend Amanda tagged me from her blog to do 7 random facts – and I need to tag someone else to keep the chain going.  So Jenni – when you read this – you need to post 7 random facts on your blog!  Tag!

Okay 7 random facts is going to be hard for me to come up with, but here goes:

1) I played bass clarinet in high school, and actually cared about music back then and yes – went to band camp – every summer

2) Apparently when I was little I wanted to play tennis, because my mom played tennis and that meant I could get married and have babies – ironically I do now play tennis and it was a pre-cursor to getting married and having babies

3) Not totally about me – but Amelia’s name came about because I dreamed that is what we named her… and then it grew on us – and we did live on Amelia Island for about 6 months when I was 4

4)  I bought a guitar to learn how to play after dating a guy who was good at it – he even wrote me a song – and I never learned and gave the guitar to my mom.  I was surprisingly good at guitar hero the first and only time I’ve played though…

5) I like sleep – having a 7 month old doesn’t really help with that – but even before her, we’d go to bed early… now its even earlier.  Like 9pm early.

6)  I read surprisingly fast – and I can totally block out things around me – like my husband, poor thing.  Its a habit I picked up while traveling for work as a consultant in airports & planes.  My favorite all time series is by Diana Galbaldon – Outlander – its historical fiction with romance thrown in.  I prefer ‘fake’ because its an escape from the real world for me, though I do like other books.  Amelia has put a crimp in my reading.

7)  I’ve lived in … Metarie, LA; Amelia Island, FL;Norcross, GA; Cupertino, CA; Kingwood, TX; Durham, NC (Go Blue Devils!); and now Atlanta, GA … with a few three month stints thrown in for internships/work in Austin, TX; Tampa, FL; Phoenix, AZ.   Trying to cover most of the Southeast with a couple Western cities thrown in for good measure.

Okay – Jenni – tag!
