Musings From Mom on a Monday

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Well its another Monday. I really dread getting to work on a Monday – I mean, I’ve accepted that I am a working mom and that I have to go to work to be a working mom – but its so hard to leave Amelia at daycare on Mondays. I just want to stay and play with all of them. Once its done, the week moves on smoothly and our routine is down pat. But Mondays are hard.

This weekend was great – a Valentine’s date with my husband (check out the review on www.ddwinereview.com), dinner with friends twice, and Amelia got to play with her friend Meredith. Even if Meredith did try to take all her toys – that was actually really adorable. The working moms in our neighborhood even went and got our nails done – so I feel like I should be re-charged for the week and I’m not. Hopefully this week will speed by and we’ll be off for the weekend visiting friends in North Carolina. Chris is out of town this week, but it should be his last for his current project – yeah!

Amelia is growing so fast these days – sitting up fairly well, working on her 2nd tooth, saying ‘ba’ and her newest – screeching a high pitch noise quite a bit. She eats so well and hasn’t met a food she hasn’t liked – hence her big belly. She’s had pretty much all the stage 1 foods now, I think we have squash and peaches left and on to the next stage. Well once we finish all the jars of stage 1 we have anyway.

I hope all of you are having a good Monday and have an easy week.

Six Months Old Today

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Dearest Amelia-bug,

You are six months old today.  It is crazy how time flies.  You were so tiny just the other day and now you are 17 pounds and into your 6 – 9 months clothes.  You try to sit up yourself, though you can only get a few inches off the ground;  you can stay sitting for awhile – especially if a toy has your interest in front of you;   you can hold your bottle while you eat, though you don’t always want to.  We’ve seen you roll both ways and figure out that you can reach toys by using one hand to bring the arch closer so you can grab the toy with the other.  You like to interact with your cousin, even if that means trying to eat each other’s head – its adorable!  I can’t wait to see you two be the best of friends though I know we are in for a world of trouble when that happens.  And lately, you want to touch and feel and grab everything around you – especially if its shiny like your dad’s watch or your mom’s necklace.  Probably the most exciting change for our sake is that you love sleep and now sleep through the night almost every night.  I love to peak in and watch you sleep as you have managed to snuggle yourself into the corner of your crib on your belly with your bottom sticking into the air.   When you get a good night sleep you wake up all smiles and are so happy to greet the day.

We love you so much and can’t believe how much you’ve grown.   Just remember you’ll always be our tiny Amelia-bug.

Love,
Mom

First Christmas

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Wow – this Christmas thing is exciting. First I got to celebrate with my dad’s parents – Nonni and Grandpappy. My cousin Lena was supposed to join us too, but unfortunately she wasn’t feeling too well. They gave me this awesome toy called an exersaucer – I can play in it all day long – I love it! See the picture my mom took of me playing. We also went to Houston to see my mom’s parents – it was my first airplane ride. I loved watching us take off through the window and the people watching kept me occupied. I was a good little traveler – everyone said so. While in Houston we went to Christmas Eve service so I got to learn about the meaning of Christmas. I loved all the songs we sung in church. While we haven’t started baby food yet, I have started on soy formula and I really enjoy it thankfully. Course I’m just happy to get food, no matter what the source. My parents tell me that in the New Year I’m going to get to try bananas – mom had some on her pancakes and they looked pretty good so I’m excited to try them out. I hope everyone else had a good Christmas and check back soon to see what I think of my first fruit.

Letter From My Mom

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Dear Amelia,

You are almost 5 months old now – its crazy how fast its gone by.  This morning you were too cute as you loved hearing your voice say vowel sounds, so there were happy screams of “ahhh” coming from you during your diaper change and while you played on your exercise mat.  Yesterday during tummy time you kept talking to the baby in the mirror – and I often find you just talking to yourself.    I think you are close to sitting up, so far you do it as long as we help you – maybe you are waiting for Christmas morning.  Every day I’m startled to see you are bigger than you were the day before, and you are more aware of what is going on around you.  I even think you understood that the blue ring caused your monkey toy to dance.  The new year should be full of more surprises and lots of fun – it’ll be interesting to watch you try your solid foods and see what you think of them.    Your dad and I love you so very much, and are so glad you are part of our family.

Love,
Mom
