What to do with a sick baby…
Well, here’s the thing. Amelia isn’t acting sick really, especially not anymore, beyond wanting an extra cuddle or two. She just can’t be around other children as long as she keeps going to the bathroom so often…. which means she is really her active toddler self, wanting lots of entertainment.
Which meant that yesterday she got a new toy – this lead to over an hour of entertainment so I think it was a good pick. Amelia loves balls, loves throwing and bouncing and rolling them. Now she has balls that can go in a hoop! The joy! Its really a bathtime toy but it worked outside the bath – the hoop didn’t stay up if she put weight on it, so she played with it on the floor for a long time too, putting balls in, taking them out. I’m using it as a learn color activity as well – but I think she’s mostly ignoring me.
She’s also getting fed lots of applesauce, oatmeal, purees, etc as her tummy heals. So I’m trying to let her learn how to use a spoon – partly driven by the fact that she often won’t let me feed her anymore. She’s doing pretty well as long as she gets the spoon gripped right – her main issue is she sometimes turns it over before it gets to her mouth – which leaves it on her bib. She’s very proud when she does it herself though.
Sometimes she gets annoyed at the spoon and just goes in with her hands…. I’m trying to discourage this but its kind of funny.
Most of you who read this blog know Amelia is a pacifier baby (remember the ring of pacis post?). To keep the pacis in the crib, we use a breathable bumper that sticks up just a couple inches – it works great so she doesn’t lose them. Well we decided to sterilize everything over the weekend, including those, so off they went and they weren’t ready before it was time for her to go to sleep – it won’t be a problem we thought … she’ll call for us if she needs us (like if she can’t find any pacis). Um…. yeah. She decided to ‘teeth’ on the bed instead. The bumpers are back in.
I’m happy to report none of her friends have come down with this and neither have myself or Baby Daddy. So we are hopeful its not contagious – just hoping she’ll get the rest of it out of her system soon! We had a slight set back yesterday, but we’re hopeful again today.
Is it really only Tuesday?
