What Happened To Our Good Sleeper…
So Amelia is normally a good sleeper. Maybe once a night she might cry enough to warrant a paci, but that’s not even every night. Last night, a Sunday night, when you need to sleep to go to work on Monday – all heck broke loose. I admit, we made changes. Maybe these should have happened on a Friday – but we lowered her mattress and removed her bumper pads. She can now see out of the crib and if she so chooses, stick her arms and legs out of teh crib. We are afraid to not do this as she is showing an inclination towards trying to climb the bumper pads. It also allows her to throw the paci through the bars and as we discovered, make noise by hitting the paci on the bars as well. (Imagine a prisoner in jail with his metal water cup banging the bars) She was up at least once an hour crying. She seemed like she wanted to be sleeping. Can these types of changes make that much of a difference??? And please tell me she’ll get over it. She woke up all smiles – couldn’t believe it was the same baby that had me wishing for sleeping pills in the middle of the night. Not sure for who. I’m kidding. Really.
Anyone else have this happen with these changes? Please comment and tell me it gets better.

Ah, yes. They do that to you. Just when you think you are over the hump with sleep issues, they stop sleeping. Little changes can cause it, but even more frustratingly, nothing at all can cause it. We’ve gone through it a couple of times. It does stop, and things go back to normal. For us it has lasted up to a couple of weeks at a stretch, but it does stop. Hopefully Amelia will move on more quickly. Just stick to your guns– don’t start down the “I’m so tired, I’ll just lay her down in the bed with me” road, or the “I’ll keep rocking her back to sleep” road. Truly, in my experience, that just made it worse…

Great advice from the previous commentor! So easy to ‘give in’ so you can get sleep yourself! I’m waiting for the day Caden decides to have sleeping issues again… but maybe he’s already been through that phase. He was sleeping through the night at a younge age, and then at 4 months stopped and didn’t start again till he was 6 mo old… so we’ll see!
It sounds like the bumper thing is working to help her sleep a little better, here is a thought. Can you take the pillows out of your bumper? My pillows come out so I can wash the bumper cases… that way you can still block the view with the bumpers like she is used to, but they aren’t foamy and poofy enough for her to climb up them so it gives you peace of mind….
Good luck dear!!! Hopefully it’s just a phase! Oh, and as for the feeding thing, do you have a walker? We have a simple Baby Trend one with a removable toy bar (that we don’t use) and a simple tray to put snacks on. Maybe if Amelia had some time to “walk/stand” and expell some energy before eating she would sit down for you…. just another thought, but who knows! Don’t you wish they could talk and tell you waht they want!!
