Dear Amelia-bug,

Another month older – you are truly growing into such a fun lovely little girl.  It is so fun to have conversations with you.  Just this morning we were talking about taking our 6 month pictures tomorrow, and I said I was going to bring you and Katherine to Miss Elizabeth’s for pictures and you said ‘That sounds kind of fun’.  To me that felt like such an older way to say that – kind of fun.  We must say that in front of you.  Last night you put her fork on your napkin, ‘just like Oso’ – well glad you are learning even if its from Agent Oso.

We’ve mostly graduated from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse these days – your first ask is now Sid the Science Kid.  Which I really enjoy because it has experiments we can do together and it teachers you things like eating healthy.  We’ve made Popsicles out of oj thanks to Sid, and I need to get you a science journal.  I think you would really enjoy it.

You’ve also graduated from the girl who didn’t’ really want to touch snow, to loving snow.  You want to play again in the snow.  Last night during prayers you told me you were thankful for snow, and then went into a long spiel about wanting to throw snow balls and make holes in snow and make a snow angel.  Too cute.  It might sprinkle today but I doubt we’ll get the type of snow you want – sorry!  But we will again see snow – eventually (might even be next year).

We love to make up songs together in the car – it is fun!  One regular is on our way to Little Gym – ‘we’re going to Little Gym, we’re going to see Graham and Kiera (and Peyton too you add from the back of the car) – we’re going to swing on the bars….’  I love that you sit in the back of the car and make up your own songs.  You are very creative!

You sleep great in your toddler bed (which no longer has a rail), and you are looking forward to the full bed you will get for your 3rd birthday.  You still don’t get out of bed unless we say you can – wonder how long we’ll get that luxury?  You also still eat great – you eat just about everything we put in front of you.  Berries might be your favorite food – followed closely by bread – but you eat your veggies and your meat too.  The other day with snow peas you pushed out all the little peas inside, ate those, then ate the skins of the peas afterward – silly girl.  I’m glad you love to eat – and I’m glad you are good with eating our healthy meals.  Hopefully you grow up with a good appreciation of eating well balanced meals.  And appreciation for the special treat nights when we have pizza or pancakes – because it just wouldn’t be fun if you didn’t break the rules once in a while!  (And you certainly love pancakes too.)

Once of my greatest joys right now is watching you and your sister together.  It just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy to see you be a wonderful big sister.  You have taken to the roll better than I could have expected.

I’m sure if tonight, I ask you what special treat you want for your lunar birthday – you will most likely say pretzel fish.  So I will try to buy some today.  Maybe you’ll ask for a Popsicle, but doubtful.  You will think its your birthday, as you think its your birthday pretty much 75% of the time.  We will have fun and celebrate.

Love,
Mom

K: Happy 6 Months!

  • Posted on February 22, 2010 at 7:00 am

Wow – half a year old yesterday.  Still not sleeping.  We love you baby Katherine but this is kind of painful.  You are such a happy girl during the day.  Always mouth wide open in your contagious smile you have (some might call it catching flies but its cute).  However at night?  The best night we’ve ever had was when you slept, woke only once for a feeding around 2am and then slept some more until like 7.  That has happened like once in 3 months since you started daycare.  Maybe twice.  Alas, you seem to be an ear infection baby and I think that has a lot to do with it.  You are on ear infection number 3 and I’m not sure the antibiotics are working this time – we’ll see tomorrow at your 6 month well check.  It makes my heart ache to know that is causing you pain.  And on top of it?  Still trying to break through those first teeth.  You’ve been teething for months and I know we are close, any day now, but still not through.  At night – you want to be asleep so badly.  You still keep your eyes closed and are on your belly and trying to sleep – but you are obviously in pain and unable to get back to sleep.  We re-introduced pacis this weekend to help – during the day you can put them in your own mouth – but at night?  You just cry for us.  So not sure its helping.  Hopefully we will get this all figured out – we all need our sleep.

Even after a bad night, like last night, you then wake up cooing and all smiles – you are the happiest daytime baby.  You light up when you see your sister and you are getting mobile enough now through creeping and rolling to try and follow her.  I have an adorable video from the other night I will try and get uploaded tonight.  And she delights in your attention.  You two are truly going to be best friends and it makes me so happy.

You are really like solids – we’ve tried all the stage 1s except green beans (this week).  Your days start with a little oatmeal spiked with your daily half dose of prevacid around 7am.  You much prefer oatmeal over rice.  You do not like rice cereal anymore.  I can only get you to eat it with lots of fruit added in.  You don’t have your first bottle until after 8am once you are at school, but then again you still eat sometime after midnight.   You nap after that bottle, have some playtime and then around 11:30 or 12 its time for another bottle.  You eat a full stage 1 veggie or sometimes even more around 1pm and then down for another nap.  More playtime, a mid-afternoon bottle around 3:30.  You have fruit for dinner with us around 6, then your night time bottle around 6:45 and down for bed at 7.  Generally your best sleep is those first few hours.  Sometimes even until the feeding.  You go to bed without complaining for more than a minute or two.  I think you like having the pacis in your bed, if for no other reason that as toys to play with.  (I found two lying on the floor the other morning)

You are pretty much the size of most 1 year olds – you like your food.  The above schedule gives you 32 oz of formula (though you don’t finish every bottle) and 4 – 6 oz of solid food.  Last week you weighed 19 1/2 lbs.  I am pretty sure this is off the charts for a female girl at 6 months.  We’ll find out for sure at your well check.  I think you are adorable with your lovable thighs.  Just means 12 month clothing for the most part though occasionally I squish you into a smaller one because I liked it alot and didn’t want to not use it.

You have started babbling – mostly a sounds or wa sounds but the occasionally da sound as well.  You like to babble with your finger in your mouth mostly.  In fact that is how you babble 90% of the time.  Its pretty funny.  You aren’t really a laughing baby – the only real laughing I’ve seen lately is while watching your sister blow bubbles for you.  But you are a smiley happy baby and definitely engaged with us.  You really interact well and are happiest with attention.  You are a more social baby than your sister Amelia was – she was happy with alone time and independence but you thrive on attention.

You have graduated from the baby tub and the baby bucket car seat just this past week into the inflatable tub and the rear facing full fledged car seat.  You sit pretty well and with your size we decided it was time.  So far so good!

Probably your favorite toy is a set of toy keys to chomp on and your favorite activity is drumming.  You like to bang with your left hand in particular, whether it be while in your high chair or laying on your belly.  You sit well but are still likely to dive at any point in time, in any direction, so we have to be watchful and keep it well padded.

We love you so much baby Katherine.  I can’t believe you are 6 months old.  You are growing up fast – but at least you do it adorably and smiling the whole day away.

Love,

Mom

Excited about eating time.

You like to eat your foot – at daycare one day they had to change your socks because they were soaked from your drool.

Look mom – playing with my big sis!

You kept trying to dive into the cushions.  I think you might be the dare devil of the family.

Mmm tasty.  I chew everything.  I mean everything.

Mommy put a silly hat on Katherine so of course big sister Amelia had to try it too!

Playing around in your room.

I took these while trying to show the amount of drool you have – you can’t quite tell but it was impressive.  Strings from your mouth all the way to the floor.  And you were having fun playing with a Christmas gift from your Nanny and cousins – a little record playing.  You would swat at the buttons until something would play – you were figuring it out – it was fun to watch.  You mostly preferred chewing on the records though.

Happy Presidential Valentine’s Day!

Gotta love a holiday weekend with not one but two special days!  I went a bit camera happy this weekend, so I won’t post all of them here – but here are a few fun pictures from our weekend.  We enjoyed time with Chris’ family (Amelia’s cousin Lena is also her best friend), had a wonderful Valentine’s at home and visited with friends at a cookie decorating party.  Today has been spent cleaning & organizing the house so not really a holiday but it works.

You might notice – Katherine is sitting pretty well just in time to be 6 months next weekend.  You just don’t know when she’ll choose to dive and hit the floor which is a slight issue on wood floors.  She doesn’t like it very much.  (And its not always backwards – sometimes the side just to liven it up.)  Also?  All this drool and teething – still no teeth.  Sigh.

If you want to see all the photos I took this weekend – well the selection I edited – I uploaded about 40 or so – check out: http://dyaranddyar.shutterfly.com/1104

Have a good week!

Snow!

  • Posted on February 13, 2010 at 8:40 am

We live in Atlanta so snow is a big event.  City shuts down event.  And snow that is really playable snow?  That you can build snowmen and such?  Its awesome!  So glad we got fun snow for our holiday weekend.  You might remember last time we had some snow, Amelia refused to come onto the porch and play with me – luckily this time she was game.  She had a blast.  Even Katherine liked it for the few minutes she was outside.

A couple of Amelia’s comments about the snow:

‘It’s snowing! It’s Christmas!’

‘I’m going to get Christmas all over me’

With that – go out and enjoy the snow.

I Love My Girls!

  • Posted on February 12, 2010 at 7:25 am

So even though we’ve had a rough winter of colds and such – I am still loving having my two girls and can’t imagine it any other way.  Well maybe with more sleep.  But otherwise – they bring me such joy and their smiles light up my life.

You may remember I mentioned a Valentine’s photoshoot – here is Amelia and Katherine examining K’s sock.

Amelia is going in to kiss her sister on the head and if you look you see Katherine’s expression of … I don’t know what’s going on but I’m not sure I like it.

Looking at camera together – but looking a bit concerned or something.

Okay this one works!  My adorable two girls.

And if this doesn’t just crack you up and make your heart melt maybe the smiles below do.  Katherine isn’t a huge giggler – but she is a smiler.  She is a people person and when you engage with her, she just lights up.

And Amelia is a toddler and knows enough about my camera to not smile for me half the time anymore – but she is a ham.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Making Valentine’s Day Cards

Amelia watched an Agent Oso about making a Valentine’s card – so we decided to start doing arts & crafts and I grabbed Chris’ iPhone and took video.

Enjoy!

How Bout…

  • Posted on February 4, 2010 at 9:22 am

Just had to document one of the things Amelia does lately that makes my heart melt in its cuteness…

I know I should probably correct bad grammar/language – and we do, but Amelia has some fun sayings.

If I ask her if she wants something – like what kind of juice or what to drink – she answers “how ’bout … milk” or “how ’bout … apple juice” – cracks me up.  (The … represents her drawing out the bout)

If she is eating at dinner and finishes something – its ‘I ate my chili all’ – we’ve tried correcting this one many many times, but I still find it cute.

At dinner last night she told me ‘Good dinner mommy’ – awe.  Made me all warm.

She calls the thermometer, and the sound monitors – something along the lines of ‘mom-eters’.

Oh and thanks to Sid the Science Kid and our project to make fruit juice pops – Amelia ate her first ice pop!  Made with oj.  It was funny – she didn’t want to try it but by demonstrating, Chris finally got her to lick it – then she just kept licking it and saying she liked it.  Finally had to be taken away because it was melting -she wouldn’t bite into it but that doesn’t surprise me since its cold. (Neither of my kids like cold!)

Toddlers are fun!

Sneak Peek Of A Valentine

  • Posted on February 2, 2010 at 1:27 pm

I left the hubby in charge of taking valentine’s photos of the girls while I went to the store on Sunday – and you have to wait to see the end result – but this just cracks me up.  The expression of ‘Daaadddd… what are you doing….’ – I’m sure we will see it a lot as she grows older.

And Amelia knows that I take a lot of pictures and at 2 1/2, she has gotten to where she tells me no.  However the other day she was all loving on Katherine and said ‘pick up your camera mommy’ – hehe.  Glad she wants me to document the wonderful relationship she has with her sister.  (Video to come another time) I am constantly impressed by how great their relationship is, especially given their ages of 2 1/2 and 6 months.  You can already see the love there.  It makes my heart warm.
Updated – I just happened to be looking through the Beautiful Baby Gallery for Regis & Kelly’s baby search (I enter every year) – and look – it’s Amelia!

What To Do When Its Cold Outside

  • Posted on February 1, 2010 at 7:11 am

When you have toddlers, you really start getting creative when the outdoor play gets put on hold.  It is a must to burn off some of their energy.  When weather is good, we have our annual passes to the Atlanta zoo – but its been awhile since that’s been possible.  When the weather is bad… we all go stir crazy.  So this year we decided to get annual passes to the Georgia Aquarium – and it might be the best investment we’ve made.  Yesterday was our 2nd visit this year, and Amelia really loves seeing the fishes and the sharks and the whales.  And I love taking pictures there.  Sometimes they come out better than others, but its always fun to try and capture Amelia’s wonder at everything around her.  Yesterday was also Katherine’s first ‘awake’ visit and she seemed to really enjoy riding around in our chest carrier taking it all in.  She was awake almost the whole time.  A fun side note to the whole thing – we had Amelia in a pull-up – just not sure I’m ready to risk public places and panties yet – but she stayed dry the entire time (2 1/2 hours all together) I tried to get her to go potty twice, but I think the loud flushing there was scary so she said she didn’t need to go.  And I didn’t push it – and she was still dry when we got home.  Good job Amelia! (say it louder mommy) GOOD JOB AMELIA!  I think we may truly have a potty trained toddler.

And yes, it worked.  Amelia ran around, climbed steps, walked pretty much the whole time – and took a 3 hour nap afterwards.  Thank you aquarium!

In other news, Katherine is getting really close to sitting on her own (she does have a solid base to work from after all haha).  She mostly ends up in this kind of three point stance to use a football term.   She also LOVES her exersaucer.  So a couple cute photos to start your week.
