Thankful

  • Posted on November 30, 2009 at 6:46 am

As I embark on a new stage of life – going back to work with two wonderful daughters – it was good to have a week to think about all I am thankful for.  We have amazing family and friends and our daughters bring us so much joy.  I couldn’t ask for a better husband and loving father to the girls.  We spent the week with family, both our small one and our extended one, and really had a great time.  We got our first artificial Christmas tree and set out the nativity – I love the spirit of the holidays!  And of course, we took pictures.  Which is good because I might have to look at these every hour for the first week back at work.  I love my job – I have really great co-workers.  But it will be hard for a few weeks – at least we have Christmas to look forward to!  We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and finds time to be thankful.

Thanksgiving was a bit cold but we tried to take A and her cousin L on a walk – they snuggled with a blanket – we didn’t make it very far.

A decided to try out the bouncer we were using for K on Thanksgiving… a bit big?

Cousins playing dress up on Thanksgiving – it was too cute.  The oldest, E on the right, called themselves the ‘dress up girls’ – but her sister (also an E) wasn’t allowed – she is the youngest in the picture next to A.  But little E was creative and made her broom a magical broom to be included.  Very cute.

K sporting her UGA bib and Duke blanket, sleeping through the chaos.  And I mean chaos.  We had… 9 kids total plus 14 adults.  6 of the kids are 3 and under.  (Two of which are mine of course).  So we were pleased K managed to nap – maybe daycare will go okay!

L and E playing in the tent – aren’t cousins fun!  So glad there are so many close in age.

A playing on the porch – she likes to sweep the leaves off for us.

This weekend we set up our tree and decorated and dressed the girls up in some Christmas attire to get into the spirit.

A: 28 Months Old

My sweetest A,

I made a resolution to spend more time with you this month, and its been a month to remember.  While you have your two year old moments for sure, you are also the sweetest and most lovable little girl.  You give the most awesome hugs and I love all the things we’ve gotten to do together.

Baking together has become our thing – you’ve helped me with cupcakes and cookies and mashed potatos.  You don’t eat the sweet things but you have a blast making them.  We need to work on your decorating as you decide that all the sprinkles need to be on about 3 cupcakes – but its really fun and I’m really enjoying it.

We also have had a blast dancing together – you tell me when I’m doing it ‘wrong’ but mostly we just dance around having a blast – you particularly like when I pick you up and spin you.  Its great exercise and tons of fun!

You’ve become quite the singer – songs from school include Mary Had a Little Lamb, BINGO, Old McDonald, Row Row Row Your Boat, Baa Baa Black sheep and more!  The other night Old McDonald Had a Sheep named BINGO who followed her to school.  It was pretty cute.

You are also working on adjectives and descriptions.  You’ve told me ‘Amelia’s house is beautiful’ as well as ‘its too small’.  You also often tell us you are too heavy or things are too heavy.  Its fun seeing you learn things like this.

Mickey is still your favorite, though you do like your Little Einsteins as well.  You’ve also really come to love the teddy bears in your room – one of the small bears now sleeps with you instead of the rabbit.   Most nights you sleep with baby lamby, mama lamb and baby bear.

You have a few favorite books this month – Pig Has a Party, Mickey’s Birthday and Five Silly Monkeys seem to be the most requested before bedtime.  Occasionally another one sneaks in – but usually its one of those.

Probably the biggest thing is that you now sleep in a toddler bed!  The transition has been very smooth – you stay in there just like you stay in your crib, calling for us when you wake up for ‘permission’ to get out and get books that you bring back into bed and read.    I’m so proud of you for doing so well.

We think you’ve grown 2 inches in 2 months – you’ve really shot up lately!  We are marking it all for you on your wall ruler so you can look back and see your progress.  You started out on the short side but I think you’ve made up for that lately.

Your favorite outfits are dresses and skirts, and you definitely like to have ponytails of some sort these days – you like to pick out the ponytail holders very carefully and then show us which bows or clips you’d like to go with them.  Its fun to see you express yourself.

Each month these days you grow more into a little girl and the toddler is getting left behind.  Its so fun to see your personality shine out.  I love you baby girl – you will always be my first baby.

Love,

Mom

K: Three Months Old

  • Posted on November 21, 2009 at 1:00 am

Dearest K,

Wow little munchkin – you are three months old!  And not so little!  At two months you were 11 1/2 lbs and two weeks later already over 12 1/2 lbs so I’m guessing you are 13+ now – you seem like a 4 or 5 month old to me size wise.  And you are so fun and alert now – really starting to get playful and you are just a smiley happy girl.

My time staying home with you ends in just another week, and I’m sad about it.  However, I also know your sister thrived at her school and you will too – the teachers are amazing and you will be a joy for them.  Plus I think you will like having friends.  You already seem to be social, much preferring being around people and interacting than being by yourself.

Probably one of the most fun things right now is how much you ‘talk’.  Its hysterical.  You will be the biggest talker of the family at this rate, and that’s saying a lot – between me, your sister and your grandmothers its hard to get words in, but I think you might beat us all.   You just get into these moods and talk and talk and talk.   You are happy – its a happy thing.  Its loud too – at night sometimes you’ll talk to your rainforest friends.  If it wasn’t 3 am it’d be really amusing.

You are still a once a night eating gal – usually between 3 and 4 am.  Really hope next two weeks we can push that to 5 or 6 since I’ll be going back to work.  Let’s work on that okay?  You like to eat though – you eat probably a good 30 oz between your 6 bottles, if not more somedays.  And the good news?  You seem to do fine on a dairy based formula.  You get that one bottle a day and haven’t showed the signs your sister did – so hopefully your reflux is your only food issue to deal with.

We switched you to prevacid and that seems to be working out well.  You don’t spit up much right now, except maybe one bottle a day, and you sleep at night with only your small incline to sleep.  I think we’ve gotten your reflux controlled well and that makes us much happier.  We have even gotten through the month without any false alarms on your apnea monitor!  We might actually feel comfortable enough to wean you off of that at night soon – we’ll see.

We try to give you tummy time and play mat time – you aren’t the biggest fan but are getting to like it more and more.  You always look startled when I try to show you how to roll over – like ‘what did you just do to me’… so it might be awhile before you do that on your own.

You love when your sister sings for you – its so cute.  You just watch her anywhere she goes.  I can’t wait for you two to play together.

Let’s see… oh you also have found your fists.  You find great delight in sucking on your fist – sometimes I swear you are trying to put the whole thing in your mouth.  You almost succeed.  I’m hoping this will replace the pacifier.  Right now the paci isn’t a major part of your life, but does help at times.  If you can realize teh fist or fingers work just as well – I’d be happy.  We don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to help you find that!

We love you baby girl – we had such a rocky start when you were a week old, that its hard to believe its been three wonderful months now.  You are strong, thriving, beautiful and already showing a vibrant happy personality.

Here’s to a fun next month as we introduce you to the holiday season!

Love,
Mom

Thanksgiving Dressup

  • Posted on November 20, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Today at school A was going to learn about Thanksgiving and they were supposed to come dressed as a Pilgrim or a Native American.  Well… those aren’t exactly easy things to have around.  So I found my inner artist (haha), and here is how A went to school.  She picked out the dress – she’s really into dresses and skirts right now.

Deja Vu

  • Posted on November 13, 2009 at 6:40 am

When taking pictures of baby K in the bumbo the other day, I had such a sense of deja vu… I had to go back and find the pics of A.

What do you think?

Here is K at 12 weeks old:

And here is A at like 16 – 18 weeks old:

Yeah I think our genes run strong – they are looking more alike every day!  My beautiful baby girls.

I am also making a promise – this is the last post comparing the girls!  They are each unique and wonderful and their own independent selves so they shouldn’t be compared all the time.  This Deja Vu is my last.

Weekend Catchup

  • Posted on November 9, 2009 at 6:49 am

We had a great weekend, hope all our friends did too.  A got to go to a family festival at Home Depot and made a trivet (using a real hammer), and she made a soccer goal with a full size soccer ball on her first try, winning a little soft ball she is loving right now.  We had a visit from Nonni and Grandpappy, hit a park and just enjoyed dancing around the house.  K and I were rooting on my Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, but unfortunately our efforts weren’t enough against our arch rival.  I only have 3 weeks left until I go back to work, so I’m trying to enjoy all the time left I have at home.  Here are a few quick pictures from the weekend – I even made Baby K wear her Halloween costume again to take more pics – I just think its adorable.  (A doesn’t like to pose for pictures anymore so its getting more difficult to get good pictures of her – and when she does stop and smile she’s then running off so fast we usually have missed taking it – oh well!)

Happy Halloween!

We hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween weekend.  Here are a few pictures from our celebration.

2009_10_31-14

This was A headed off to school on Friday for her parade of costumes. (Video to come soon – I know I keep saying that)

2009_10_31-042009_10_31-082009_10_31-102009_10_31-11

At our neighborhood party for the kids before trick or treating.  A is still a ballerina and baby K is a sweet pea!    What a nice photo op area someone created at the party (haha, yes, that was what I volunteered to do – if only we had thought to put up cloth to cover windows… oh well).   Afterwards A did a few homes of trick or treating – she definitely got the concept but unfortunately it was raining and cold.  Also – she is allergic to dairy, egg and peanut so about the only candy she can eat is the sweet tarts I bought her… least she seems to like those and we’ll just have to eat the rest (actually daddy gets 90% of the candy since almost everything had peanuts and I’m not having that either since I’m the food source for K – sigh).  It’ll be harder next year when she will probably be old enough to notice we take it away… but she also might have outgrown her allergies by then.

And then just a couple cute pics of A & K sharing the same bumbo…

Happy Halloween!
