Little Things

  • Posted on September 1, 2010 at 1:34 pm

I’ve been on a business trip the last few days – I don’t do them often, and they are usually short.  When I’m gone, I miss my kids and husband terribly.  Typically you stay busy so at least time passes fast – but there are little things that I miss in particular:

- the kisses & hugs Amelia gives – she is such a loving child, and receiving her cards that she makes for me (they also come with hugs)

- hearing Amelia’s made up songs about whatever topic is on her mind

- seeing Katherine learn to walk – apparently she’s going further than 5 steps now – crazy!

- seeing Katherine dance – I had a mobile pic sent to me of her walking with a princess cd player around her neck – apparently she was dancing to the music

- seeing how excited both girls get when daddy comes home from work – its a race to see who sees him first I think – Amelia wins for now but Katherine will be right along side soon [and yes I am hoping for the same welcome]

I’m on track to get home in about 2 hours (gotta love wi-fi in the air), so here’s to seeing the little things then.

Saturday Fun

  • Posted on August 14, 2010 at 4:56 pm

Today was a unique Saturday.  We stayed home.  We just played all day long together.  Well Chris did projects around the house (thanks for our new shelf in the pantry and bike rack on my car!), and I entertained the girls… we did bubbles, colored… just a fun lazy day.  And of course I whipped out my camera.  Felt like it had been a little while, even though it really hasn’t.  The light was just good with it being cloudy and I felt like we got a few good pictures!

At first Katherine didn’t want to be cooperative.  She was cruising away from mommy, paci in mouth.

Then she decided to be up close to mommy – hard when I have a 50mm lens on.  Though I always love pictures looking down their face when you can see the eyelashes.

While eating the lens cap, the light hit her eyes just perfectly – you can see the grayish brownish hazel color that I love so much.

Outside during bubbles – what a great shot of Amelia!  She loves this new hair band, she wears it non-stop.  I make her take it out to sleep otherwise, she’d sleep in it as well.

You can see in her eyes she is up to something.

Showing her sister how to blow bubbles.

Bubbles in her face! (From elmo, not her sister)

Cruising around.

Hi mom.

Have you seen Katherine’s crawl?  She often does it straight legged, especially if its rough texture for her knees.  (She is close to just walking everywhere so I wanted to capture it – she has been standing for multiple minutes the last few days.)

Pretty tree in the front yard (we were on front porch.)

Finally got Katherine to use the crayon on paper instead of eating it.  It lasted for a good while but she eventually went back to eating.

Amelia’s really big into making me cards – which I love & treasure.

Don’t really know what she is doing, but its a cute picture.

I hope everyone is having a good Saturday (& weekend).  We needed the break before we continue the madness about to hit (Katherine’s 1st birthday!)

Waterslide!

  • Posted on August 1, 2010 at 10:40 am

So for one of Amelia’s 3rd birthday parties (yes there were two) – we had a group party with four other friends turning 3 this summer in our old neighborhood.  It was mostly neighborhood friends, and the main part – it included a big waterslide.

It was a lot of fun on a hot Saturday afternoon.  I think everyone had a blast.  Here are just a few pictures for you to enjoy, and if you want to see the full album check out http://dyaranddyar.shutterfly.com - some of my favorites are the adults sliding…

Times to Remember

  • Posted on June 29, 2010 at 6:24 am

It seems like the easy times to remember are the big events – the birthday parties, the milestones.  But I also want to remember times like Friday night.  Times where you don’t have your camera or camcorder – and you don’t need it – times that are just ‘right’.

We went to our favorite Mexican place – La Parilla – its 20 minutes but worth it.  On the way there we asked the toddler if she wanted a taco, chicken or a quesidilla.  She chose quesidilla then asked if she could live there – I think she was thinking casa (they learn some Spanish at school.)  During dinner we all competed over the large guacamole – I’m not sure who ate more, and that includes Katherine.  Amelia was scooping up heaps of it and copying daddy using her fork to pile it back up to scoop more.  Amelia also ate every last bite of her quesidilla, and Katherine ate a large plate of Mexican rice.  The service was great, the feeling relaxed.  We enjoyed some margaritas (they make good ones.)  The music is alwasy fun and festive, and Katherine is adorable dancing away to it in her high chair.  It was just the way a night with my family should be.  Fun and festive, relaxed, enjoyable – love flowing amongst all of us.  Nothing remarkable, just a great evening.

We continued to have a wonderful weekend with a trip to the aquarium – seeing Amelia’s wonder at the sea otters who were ‘flying’ in the water and her favorite thing ‘all the fishes!’ – she also kept using her magnifing glass to look at them – too cute.

And we went to the pool together – both girls jumping off the side into our arms, hair getting curlier when wet.  (Katherine can’t jump yet technically but she tries – she gets gently pulled in.  She has no fear.)

Just moments that create the family that is mine.  And times I want to remember always.

Lena is 3!

  • Posted on June 14, 2010 at 5:27 am

Lena is Amelia’s best friend and cousin – and a whole 6 weeks older.  We had a fun filled Saturday morning at her birthday party – the kids had such a great time.  You had a playground, bubbles, candy out of a pinata and cake.  What could be better?  While I did take pics of other kids too (dyaranddyar.shutterfly.com) – these focus on Amelia, Katherine & Lena.

Amelia loves slides – I had like 30 pics of her on the slide.

Learning to climb up the ladder.

Had to include this little cutie – the sunglasses make her a diva after my own heart.

Catching bubbles!

Katherine got really into the bubbles.

With Nonni eating lunch then going after candy from the pinata (it had strings – I hadn’t seen one like that but great for toddlers.)

We got candy!  Amelia got 90% sweet tarts – she knows what she likes.

Lena wouldn’t look at me but…. with her mom at her party!

Love the action shot of blowing out candles… good job Lena!

Amelia did pick up Nerds.  She is here trying her first nerd.

Katherine’s thing right now is waving.  Hi!

The cousins enjoyed sharing their different flavors of nerds with each other – it was really cute.

Thanks again for such a wonderful party!  We had a blast.  Now Amelia won’t stop talk about her party which isn’t for over a month.

Blowing raspberries!

Watching her first princess movie – so serious.

Posing for mom.

Enjoying eating baby puree – carrot tomato to be exact.

Just like this look -her looking into the distance.

Home sick today and hanging with mom – still in pjs.

Friends

  • Posted on April 12, 2010 at 7:07 am

I didn’t realize how early toddlers would have a concept of friends.  I mean, Amelia sees her schoolmates every day, and some even more than that since we are friends & neighbors with their families.  But a few weeks ago, if you asked, she would very specifically say her best friend was Payton – she loves Payton.  So because she was so adorable about it, we scheduled a playdate with Payton at the zoo yesterday – and it was a wonderful afternoon.

Aren’t they adorable? [yes I need to edit/lighten this photo but still - adorable!]

Time to Plant

  • Posted on April 12, 2010 at 7:03 am

Last year I don’t know if you remember but we planted all sorts of things in pots on the back deck – tomatoes (two kinds!), zucchini, cantaloupe, peas… this year we scaled back just a bit.  Next year I want true raised beds, etc, but we just moved in so we didn’t want to worry about much this year.   This year we are doing one tomato plant, some sweet basil to go with the tomatoes and some mint – to go with our mint juleps or iced tea.   We also planted one flower since we had the pot, and it should be low maintenance (especially thanks to my useful hubby who set up irrigation for them!)

Amelia was very excited to help out.

Let’s see how this season goes!

Trying to Crawl

  • Posted on April 12, 2010 at 6:57 am

This is Katherine getting distracted by a bunny when I tried to take her picture.

This is Katherine trying to crawl away – she is so close, I know any day I will turn around and she will be gone.

She blessed me with these adorable photos after all.

Eggs, Family and More!

  • Posted on April 5, 2010 at 9:50 am

We hosted a family Easter brunch with egg hunt on Saturday.  You have to understand, we haven’t hosted a family gathering in a long time – we had a townhome and we didn’t even have our dining room set out – it sat in storage.  Now that we are in a house, we finally took over the hosting duties from Ann & Benji – and it was fun!  It’ll be even better when the house is a bit further along in getting organized, etc – but it was still wonderful to have everyone.

I got to break out the china! (Note to self – buy a tablecloth!)

And Amelia decorated cupcakes with her Kaykay. (Amelia doesn’t eat them, yet I make them allergy-friendly anyway – normally with pumpkin but couldn’t find it at the grocery, so these have applesauce instead of egg.  I’ll just say I also bought a Publix cake ahem)

And I had to buy this bread from Great Harvest bakery. (Still haven’t had the heart to cut into it, it was just decor – but their cinnamon chip bread? To die for – we can’t keep it in the house more than 2 days)

We did an Easter egg hunt for the two toddlers – 40 eggs for 2 girls! Haha.  And the Easter Bunny (aka Grandpa Joe) left them in pretty obvious places.

Here is Amelia on the hunt.  This egg had rolled into the bushes but she had no problem going for it!

And here is Lena up in the more natural part of our yard.

I showed Katherine the two eggs I collected for her – I think these looks are curious and then ‘what the heck do I do with these?’

Next we tried for some posed photos – it worked with the toddlers!  (I grabbed every bunny stuffed animal we had! Who needs to take pics with live bunnies!)

Then Nonni gave the girls some ears to put on… these looks crack me up.

Okay okay we’ll smile.

And then we tried to put Katherine in there – poor Lena tried to comfort her but she was not having it.  (Katherine is carrying on the Dyar tradition of being sick for holidays – at least one of us, every holiday – unfortunately it was her at Christmas too – this time on breathing treatments & steroids making for a grumpy serious baby.)

One more of cutie-pie Amelia.  She is looking all grown up!

And then Ann & I jumped in – I swear Amelia is my child – but she is the spitting image of Aunt Ann.

I was determine to take pictures of all the adults – we mostly focus on the kids (for good reason) but everyone was dressed so nice.  See what cute couples everyone is!

And then my parents got silly – I love this stream of photos – you have to look at them as an overall ‘story’:

Later in the day I asked my dad to take a picture of Chris & I – and we got one that I really love – so glad to have remembered to take this:

We then went in to have brunch inside.  Well first while the food was getting its final touches, the girls opened eggs and decorated themselves with stickers.

And then we had brunch – a little girls’ table and the big fancy table.

After a wonderful Easter meal of lamb, biscuits & gravy, fruit, asparagus, potatoes with sausage and my mom’s famous mac & cheese – we had to go for a walk – so we checked out the neighborhood playground.

Mom my mini-dress is not good for slides! (Note – this wasn’t a mini-dress when I bought it but um, I might have accidentally put it in the dryer.)

And then we walked back home – it was really fun to see Amelia & Lena play chase with one another on the sidewalk and then Aunt Ann got involved too.  (Don’t worry – we were very aware of cars)

Finally a little last play time at home – Easter basket bling and her new jump rope.  She can’t quite figure it out, but she still has fun with it!

On Sunday – I took a ton more pictures of my girls – which are all unedited on the computer.  But I did take the time to edit one of Katherine so I could post one cute Easter photo of her in a good mood.  I love this outfit too – the bunnies are adorable!

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend with family, friends, love and more.
